As the sun shined through the window and fell onto the bed of a teenage girl named Kayla. It was the beginning of summer vacation and she was excited beyond words, by the way the sun was positioned in the sky she figured it had to be close to noon, if not after, and she was right, as she looked at her clock she saw that it was 11:42.
After she came from school yesterday she made sure she had plans. After months of going to bed early she knew that the majority of her summer was going to be spend staying up late and sleeping away most of the day.
Unfortunately she was mistaken. She joined a class to become a lifeguard and most of her mornings consisted of laying on a mat her and the other poeple of the class had found while trying not to fall asleep. The other half of those mornings were spend in the frigid pool, learning the skills need to become a lifeguard.
The next few weeks flew by in a blur. There were plenty of late nights occupied by movie nights and the occasional fire. During most days she was at the local pool life-guarding with a few hours of soccer and basketball thrown into her spare time.
It wasn't until the end of July that she was truly going to go on a vacation. A full week at Kinzua Dam without cell phone service would be torture for the average teenager but she enjoyed being away from it all, and although that week had it's ups it also had it's downs. One day she had to spend three hours as a tow truck pulled her bestfriends car off of a guard rail. After the excitment she was able to enjoy a peaceful week of relaxation, tubing and skiing with her friend Mary.
The other down of the trip involved her watching as her neighbors motorhome burst into flames in downtown Smethport. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the motor home, "Rocky" was lost.
The rest of her summer was enjoyable. She worked a little and before she knew it Marching Band and soccer began to take over her time, and school followed shortly after.
